What We Do Best

All Hip Conditions & Treatments

Hip pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility can significantly affect your daily life. Dr Slattery offers a full range of hip treatments – from non-surgical management through to joint replacement – tailored to your individual condition and goals.

Hip Conditions

Hip arthritis refers to degeneration of the joint cartilage and surrounding structures, leading to stiffness, swelling, and progressive pain with activity or rest.

Avascular necrosis occurs when the blood supply to the femoral head becomes impaired, causing bone tissue to weaken and collapse, often resulting in severe hip pain.

Hip dysplasia describes inadequate development of the hip socket, which can lead to instability, labral tears, and early joint wear in adolescents and young adults.

DDH involves an underdeveloped or unstable hip joint present from birth, which may lead to pain, limping, and early osteoarthritis if not addressed.

FAI occurs when extra bone around the hip joint causes abnormal contact between the femoral head and socket, producing groin pain and restricted movement.

A hip labral tear affects the cartilage ring around the socket, often causing sharp catching pain, clicking, and discomfort with twisting or prolonged sitting.

Tears of the gluteus medius or minimus tendons can cause lateral hip pain, weakness, and difficulty with walking or lying on the affected side.

Hip Replacement

The anterior approach uses a muscle-sparing path to replace the hip joint, often allowing faster recovery, less pain, and improved early mobility.

Hip resurfacing preserves more native bone by capping the femoral head with a ceramic implant, suitable for selected younger, active patients.

The posterior approach provides excellent access to the hip joint and remains a reliable option for many patients needing hip replacement surgery.

Total hip replacement involves replacing the damaged ball and socket with prosthetic components to relieve pain and restore mobility in advanced arthritis.

A partial hip replacement can restore movement and relieve pain after a hip fracture, without the need to replace the entire joint.

Robotic-assisted hip replacement uses advanced imaging and navigation to improve implant positioning, stability, and overall surgical accuracy.

Revision hip replacement is performed when an existing hip prosthesis wears out, loosens, or becomes painful, and involves replacing or rebuilding components.

Other Hip Treatments

Hip arthroscopy uses minimally invasive keyhole instruments to treat labral tears, impingement, cartilage injuries, and soft-tissue conditions.

PAO surgery reorients the acetabulum to provide better coverage of the femoral head, improving stability and reducing symptoms in hip dysplasia.

Hip preservation procedures aim to correct structural problems such as impingement or dysplasia to delay or avoid the need for hip replacement.
