Upper Limb Fractures/Broken Bones
OVERVIEW
Fractures (Broken Bones) of the Shoulder, Elbow and Wrist are common from both minor and major accidents. These are incapacitating in the short term as they commonly require the use of a cast or brace and restrict the use of the affected limb.
Common mechanisms of injury include:
- car crashes/motor vehicle accidents
- workplace accidents/injuries
- falls
- direct impacts
- sports injuries
Common Upper Limb Injuries Include:
- Distal radius and ulnar fractures (broken wrist/forearm)
- Elbow fractures and dislocations
- Humerus/Arm fractures
- Shoulder fractures
- Collarbone (Clavicle) fractures
It is essential that upper limb injuries are appropriately investigated and treated otherwise long-term problems can eventuate. Fractures, tendon injuries, dislocations and soft tissues injuries can all be easily missed. After any major injury it is essential that you are reviewed by an appropriate medical professional to evaluate your condition.
